Dear SMS Parents,

It took a while, but it looks like winter has finally arrived in Central Oregon! It’s time again to think about the occasional ice or snow storm that we’re likely to experience in the next few months.

When the Sisters School District administration feels that weather conditions are too hazardous for safe travel, we may have a two hour delay or the school will be closed altogether.

In case of inclement weather throughout the winter season, we encourage you to do the following:

  1. Ensure we have your correct phone number.  Our Superintendent will send a phone message through our phone messaging system.  You should have received a number of phone messages from the school this year.  If you have not received any phone messages from us, then we do not have your correct phone number.  Please call Mary Lesowske in our Main Office to update your phone number.
  2. Look on the School District website.  We will post delay/closure information on the website as soon as we can in the morning.
  3. Watch the local television news stations to see if a message from Sisters School District appears in the scrolling list of delays and closures at the bottom of the screen or on a list on the station web-site.  Tune into a local radio station for updates on school delays and closures.

You will always need to assess the safety of your commute. Even if Sisters School District remains open, we encourage you to use your own discretion and wisdom. Central Oregon has unique weather patterns and we have students traveling over thirty miles.  Families may decide to adjust their normal commuting arrangements or they may opt to avoid traveling all together.  If families decide to stay home or come in late, please communicate with us as soon as possible by calling Connie Nielson in Attendance.  Although missing classes on such a day is counted as an absence, we understand that your student’s safety is a priority.

Sincerely,
Marshall Jackson
