ECoS
(Earth, Community, Self)
As eighth graders, some students apply to enter a unique adventure-based outdoor-focused science community called ECoS (Earth, Community, Self). This is a program that’s not available at any other public middle school in the world.
We explore science and life as a community of learners by immersing ourselves together in the natural world. Through daily outdoor activities, local field trips, and weekend expeditions around Oregon, we grow as individuals and a group to become critical thinkers, leaders, artists, and adventures.
Activities include backpacking, caving, rock climbing, surfing, archery, tree climbing, forestry, and so much more. We learn the same basic standards as other eighth graders, but we take it deeper, we take it outside, and we have life-changing experiences together.
